AUDITION PROCESS

The Boston Crusaders audition consists of a single round of auditions in November and December (or via video). At these audition weekends, you will work closely with our instructional staff to learn the foundation of our technique program. In addition to section and group rehearsals, you will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with one of our staff members, who will give you important pointers on how to prepare for your next rehearsal.

— The key to your audition is in your preparation. Carefully prepare the audition material and make sure you give yourself the very best chance to show what you are capable of musically and visually. The separation is in the preparation. Those who come prepared will draw the attention of the instructional staff. —

After the audition you will be notified of your standing with the corps. While a majority will earn a contract after the first audition, some members may be asked to another camp before earning their spot. It is critical that you use the time between rehearsals to strengthen the weak areas identified by our staff. The audition process can be long and trying, but with hard work and dedication… earning a spot with the Boston Crusaders is entirely within your reach!

— Staff members will be looking for improvement, regardless of your placement at auditions. Your ability to take instruction and improve in between camps will be closely evaluated. In order to achieve excellence on the field over the course of the summer you must be able to constantly refine and improve musically and visually after taking instruction. —

TUITION FEES

It’s no secret—marching in a drum corps can be costly. While we work tirelessly to keep tuition low, the truth is that you need to be prepared to pay the vast majority of it out of pocket. We offer a variety of fundraising and scholarship opportunities. However, the scholarships are competitive and the fundraisers are only as successful as the work you put into them.

— Many of our fundraisers require a minimum participation and fundraising level that you must meet. All of our fundraisers allow for you to defray from the costs of your tuition. Do not rely on scholarships and sponsorships unless you have certain guarantees. Paying member fees is part of being a team player and allows the Crusaders to operate at an elite level, with elite instruction and design. You must meet our obligations to participate. —

Our tuition covers all housing, food, rehearsal camp fees, transportation, equipment, uniform costs, and finals banquet while you are on tour and during spring training, as well as an education delivered by our world class instructional team. You will need to have sufficient funds for laundry every two weeks, as well as for other minor expenses such as section shorts, set books, performance gloves, OTC medications & medical supplies and any spending money for free days or the occasional non-corps meal.
