PREPARE AN AUDITION PIECE
Show off your skills using repertoire you already know! Please come to auditions (or film a video audition) prepared to show off your skills through a short solo that showcases your virtuosity, musicality, and performance. For battery, this piece should be at least 20-30 seconds and front ensemble at least 60-90 seconds. This piece does not have to be exclusive of the Boston Crusaders.
Those attending an in-person audition should be prepared to play exercises as listed within the audition packet. Additional assignments may be required for callbacks.

We have openings in all nearly all percussion sections including snare, tenor, bass drum, synth, marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone.

What should I bring to an audition?
Battery:
- Sticks or mallets for the instrument you are trying out for. Please have sticks and mallets taped with white stick tape.
- Music stand
- 3-ring binder with plastic sheet protectors (non-glare) and pencils
- If possible, your own drum with stand and/or harness.
Front Ensemble:
- A Good Attitude- We are looking for much more than just great playing ability and previous experience, we are looking to find great team members as well. A Front Ensemble is a unique
collection of people, as those 15-16 players spend all day, everyday, for 3 months straight together. We are looking for folks who buy into a “team” concept and are able to effectively
receive instruction from the admin, staff, and section leaders to achieve our goals. - Mallets and Instruments: Front ensemble mallets and instruments will be available during the audition camp, however, for your solo excerpt feel free to bring your own mallets if you’d like.
Will there be housing, meals, or transportation provided?
Housing and meals will be provided at full weekend camps. Candidates must arrange their own transportation from the airport. Housing, meals, and transportation is not provided for one-day or pop-up events.
Can I participate without auditioning?
Yes! We encourage anyone who's interested in marching drum corps at some point to attend a camp, download a packet, and join the Facebook groups. The best way to get a feel for the audition process is to start now, even if you aren't formally auditioning.
What rehearsals do I have to attend?
The 2027 season can be broken up into three main parts: camps, spring training, and tour.
Audition/Camps:
- Auditions - Choose one: PASIC Pop-Up, Houston camp, or video audition
- Callbacks- December 11-13th in Houston, TX
- April Camp in Texas
Spring Training/Move-Ins:
May
The 2026 Boston Crusaders’ spring training will take place in the Northeast from the end of May through June. While at spring training, members reside in dorms and eat in the campus dining hall, with an end of day snack provided from the corps’ food truck. Our facilities provide ample rehearsal space including indoor space, multiple outdoor fields, and a turf stadium. We enjoy very comfortable spring temperatures and the members have one night off per week for rest and relaxation.
Tour
Concludes August 14th
After spring training, the Boston Crusaders will embark on a tour that is approximately seven weeks long. The corps will travel the country via coach bus and house in high schools and college campuses. The corps will perform on the 2026 Drum Corps International summer tour and several special performances including parades and concerts. Between rehearsals and shows, members will enjoy free days to explore cities along the way. The season will culminate at the 2027 DCI World Championships in Indianapolis, IN.
